Two procedures instead of ten

Most eye clinics offer a wide range of services: lens replacement, specialty lenses, presbyopia correction, and corneal cross-linking. We don’t. We’ve focused on the two laser procedures that address the vast majority of vision problems—and we perform them every day.

This limitation is the reason for the price. Fewer procedures mean fewer pieces of equipment, less setup time, and more routine work per procedure. And it’s the reason we turn away patients who would be treated elsewhere: If you don’t fall within our specialty, you’re in the wrong place—and we’ll tell you so.

✓WhatWe Treat

  • Myopia up to −6 dpt with Trans-PRK, up to −8 dpt with Femto-LASIK
  • Hyperopia up to +3 dpt, exclusively with Femto-LASIK
  • Astigmatism up to 5 dpt
  • Values that have remained stable for at least twelve months

✕We don’t cover that

  • Presbyopia. The loss of near vision cannot be corrected with a laser—that requires lens-based procedures, which we do not offer.
  • Cataracts and Other Forms of Lens Opacity
  • Values at the KRC threshold, even if they were technically feasible
  • Keratoconus and Other Progressive Corneal Diseases
Basis The diopter values listed above are not in-house guidelines. They correspond to the scope of application defined by the Commission for Refractive Surgery (KRC) of the German Ophthalmological Society (DOG) and the German Association of Ophthalmologists (BVA), as of May 2024—that is, the range within which a procedure is considered appropriate by the professional association and side effects are rare. In addition, the KRC recognizes a borderline range in which surgery is still possible, but “with progressively poorer results and more frequent side effects.” We do not perform procedures in that range. Trans PRK LASIK PRK Femto-Lasik

Trans PRK

The modern Trans PRK method is characterized by the fact that it works “without touching” the eye. The surface of the cornea (epithelium) is ablated by a high-precision laser. The laser then corrects the curvature that is responsible for your defective vision. Due to the high precision of this method, healing can be expected to be rapid. The epithelium can grow back after just three days. Read more

LASIK

In the tried and tested LASIK eye laser method, the surface of the cornea is not removed, but folded back after an incision with a scalpel. The cornea is then corrected using an excimer laser. The flap is then folded back onto the treated cornea. The flap grows back completely after the procedure. The actual operation only takes a few minutes.

PRK

The PRK method is similar to Trans PRK in that the uppermost layer of cornea is also completely removed. However, this is removed manually using a scalpel or a plane. As soon as the cornea is exposed, the defective vision is corrected by laser. The epithelium must grow back in the days following the procedure. This method has been used successfully for decades. Femto-Lasik

Femto-LASIK is a further development of the “LASIK method”. Here too, the corneal surface is folded down in order to subsequently correct the defective vision. The decisive difference is that the folding of the flap is not made possible by mechanical action. A special femtosecond laser removes the top layer with high precision and without direct contact. Finally, the epithelium is simply folded back.

Trans PRK
