How long does laser eye surgery with LASIK & Trans-PRK take at Smartlaser?

2 weeks Victor Derhartunian

Glasses and contact lenses are worn for a lifetime – laser vision correction takes just a few weeks in total – including preliminary examination, treatment and aftercare – and ensures that you will never be dependent on visual aids again and can enjoy life to the full without restrictions.
With Smartlaser itself you need
only about 4.5 hours (in total!).

In this article, you will find out exactly how long laser eye surgery with Smartlaser – as offered by Femto-LASIK and Trans-PRK and into which “phases” your treatment can be divided:

Three steps to healthy eyes & away with glasses:

From the initial consideration of having a laser eye correction performed at Smartlaser until the end of treatment, you will need a total of a total of four appointments expect.
We can take away your fears right from the start: Each of the appointments is painless, entertaining and becomes
100 percent outpatient carried out.
So you don’t have to spend a single night outside your own four walls.

For maximum comfort and the most pleasant and stress-free treatment possible, we have structured our treatment procedure as follows – regardless of the method used:

Preliminary examination: diagnosis, medical history & individual planning of the correction

The first visit is always either a free and non-binding aptitude test or a complete preliminary examination, which costs a little, but is also non-binding and is deducted from the treatment price at the end.
In both cases, we take time for you, your questions and your eyes:

  • Aptitude test: The free aptitude test only takes about 15 minutes. We will check whether your eyes are generally suitable for laser eye surgery and whether your visual defect can be permanently corrected by us.
  • Preliminary examination: During the comprehensive preliminary examination, we carry out all the necessary examinations of the eye to develop the perfect, individually tailored treatment plan and find a method that suits your eyes and your needs.
    This takes
    90 minutes.

Depending on which “preliminary examination” you have arranged, you should therefore spend between 15 minutes and 1.5 hours Bring your own time.
Of course, in individual cases it may be quicker or more time may be needed for examinations and questions.
The most important thing is that you leave the appointment with a good feeling so that you can make the right decision.

The day of treatment with Femto-LASIK or Trans-PRK

On the day of the treatment itself, your eyes have already been examined and a few final checks will be made to ensure that everything fits.
We ask our patients to register for the
procedure for at least two hours in total. But don’t worry: laser eye surgery doesn’t take that long.
This includes the time until the anesthetic eye drops take effect and the observation time after the procedure.

Of course, our eye surgeons will also take the time to explain the procedure to you and answer any questions you may have.
The following steps then follow:

  1. Disinfection and cleansing of the eye area
  2. Anesthetic eye drops work within a few minutes
  3. Adjustment of the state-of-the-art lasers based on your examination results
  4. The laser itself is only active for a few seconds (more on this below)
  5. Insertion of protective lenses for complication-free healing
  6. Final discussion and behavioral tips

Aftercare for fast, smooth healing

To ensure that your eyes heal as quickly as possible after the minimally invasive laser eye surgery and that there are no complications, it is important that you attend your two follow-up appointments appointments.
Depending on whether you opt for Femto-LASIK or Trans-PRK, these appointments will be at different intervals.

One appointment quite soon after the laser eye correction and one appointment as soon as the healing process is largely complete – the so-called final examination.
The aftercare appointments and check-ups each take
between 15 and a maximum of 45 minutes.

If unexpected and rare problems arise during this phase, you can of course contact us at any time to arrange further appointments on site at short notice so that we can respond as quickly as possible.

Healing time after laser eye surgery:

With Femto-LASIK surgery, the patient’s vision improves within the first few minutes after the operation. within the first few minutes. However, it takes a few days to a few weeks until the final visual acuity is achieved. a few days to a few weeksas the brain still has to get used to the new impressions.

Trans-PRK is known for the fact that the healing process takes a little longer.
Nevertheless, even with this method
after two to three days enjoy significantly improved visibility.

How long does the laser vision correction procedure itself take?

The duration of the preliminary examination, healing and follow-up appointments is good to know, but what worries most of our patients is the excitement and fear of using the laser.
And here, too, we can reassure you:
It goes much faster than you think and before you know it the laser eye correction has already been successfully completed. In terms of net treatment time, Femto-LASIK and Trans-PRK at Smartlaser don’t have much in common:
